I’m Rarely Worried About the Babies — I Worry About the Moms

“I’m rarely worried about the babies. I worry about the moms.”

One thing I tell every client is that simple reminder. Because let’s be honest—moms are incredible. We pour everything into caring for our babies: making sure they’re fed, safe, loved, and thriving. But somewhere along the way, we forget to care for ourselves with that same love and attention.

When we constantly put ourselves last, it catches up with us. The exhaustion, the guilt, the feeling that we’re “not doing enough”—it all builds until we hit a wall of burnout, sadness, or resentment. The truth is, for our families to thrive, we have to thrive too. That means caring for ourselves emotionally, physically, and even spiritually—because when we’re nourished, our babies and families feel that balance too.

Simple Ways to Take Care of You

How Parenthood Impacts Mental Health

Mental health is about how balanced and well we feel day to day—not just the absence of a diagnosis. And having a baby can shake that balance for both moms and dads.

For the birthing parent, hormonal changes, physical recovery, sleep deprivation, and the emotional weight of caring for a newborn can lead to anxiety, sadness, or postpartum depression. For partners, the pressure to provide, changing roles, and less time for themselves can bring stress, irritability, or even feelings of isolation.

The transition to parenthood is beautiful—but it’s also big. There are highs, lows, and everything in between. Open communication, rest, leaning on loved ones, and reaching out for professional help when needed can make all the difference.

Because when we take care of ourselves, we’re not just surviving parenthood—we’re growing through it. So, what is one nice thing you are going to do for yourself today?
